Project Associate

Maya Królikowski

Maya believes design excellence is rooted in the intersection of equity and sustainability and is fascinated by the power of regenerative design. Her past work includes collaborating on a variety of sustainability-focused projects across the Pacific Northwest and Midwest. This includes leading integrated transportation & land use plans that connect underserved populations to active transportation across Minnesota and Utah, designing commercial/mixed-use spaces in Oregon, high-performing homes with timber in Wisconsin, working on the design of a net-positive K-8 school pursuing Living Building Challenge certification in Chicago and helping manage the Energy Revolution exhibit at the Chicago Architecture Center. Maya is a thoughtful and diligent multi-disciplinary designer who believes open communication and compassion are foundational to the success of every project.

Maya is involved in the International Living Future Institute both nationally and locally in the Chicago Collaborative and is an active member of the Illinois Green Alliance and the Active Transportation Alliance. Outside of the studio she enjoys riding her bike, spending time with family, admiring art and nature, and mentoring young women at Girls Inc.

What's your favorite season?

Fall – the leaf colors just take my breath away!

In a parallel universe, what would your profession be?

A biologist, like my grandmother! I am fascinated by the power of nature.

What motivated you to become an architect?

Growing a career that uses both the creative and technical sides of my brain while also making an impact on what the future of society could be.

What is the best trip you've taken?

To Southern Spain – Sevilla and Cordoba are vibrant and magical.

What is a hobby you spend a lot of time on outside of work?

I love to bike, row, and run – anything that keeps me active!
