Maya is a multi-disciplinary architecture professional who believes successful design is rooted in the intersection of equity, sustainability and creative expression. She is fascinated by the power of regenerative design in creating a built environment with healthy, low-carbon bio-based materials and biophilic and healing-centered design powered by renewable energy.
At Canopy, she is currently focused on projects including the Jizibik Native American affordable housing new construction; Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) shelter adaptive re-use; Saint Leonard’s Ministries Campus Renovation; and co-leads the Green Canopy Group, which prioritizes firm-wide environmental initiatives.
Maya also serves as a leader of the Living Future Illinois Member Community and is involved in Climate Action Evanston, Design Evanston, and Illinois Green Alliance.
Outside of the studio, she enjoys staying active with biking and hiking, admiring art and nature, and spending time with family.

What's your favorite season?
Fall – the leaf colors just take my breath away!
In a parallel universe, what would your profession be?
A biologist, like my grandmother! I am fascinated by the power of nature.
What motivated you to become an architect?
Growing a career that uses both the creative and technical sides of my brain while also making an impact on what the future of society could be.
What is the best trip you've taken?
To Southern Spain – Sevilla and Cordoba are vibrant and magical.

I love to bike, row, and run – anything that keeps me active!
