Canopy Studio Trip to Mexico City
About the Trip
In October 2022, the Canopy team went on an inaugural continuing education trip to Mexico City to immerse ourselves in local architecture, urbanism, history, and culture.
Trip Highlights
As a studio, we visited the historic city center, El Zocalo, and Templo Mayor. We climbed to the top of the Torre Latinoamericana observation deck for extensive vistas of the city. We visited the pyramids at Teotihuancan, experienced the engineering feat of the Biblioteca Vasconcelos, and learned the history of UNAM’s buildings and its architecture program. We enjoyed memorable lunches in a volcanic cave and dinners on a Trajinera boat.
We took in some culture and art at the Anthropology Museum and Museum Rufino Tamayo. Some of us even found a moment to slow down and do some sketching!
Our new friends at Productora welcomed us to their studio where we were inspired by their use of color and model making practice. We made a quintessentially CDMX evening outing to Lucha Libre, and ended the trip exploring the historic neighborhood of Coyoacan, including noteworthy visits to La Casa Azul and Casa Barragan.
We returned to Chicago with stronger connections to each other and an abundance of inspiration for our shared work.
