New Community Center, Affordable Apartments Coming To Little Village
LITTLE VILLAGE — The city approved plans Thursday for two nonprofits to create a community center and affordable housing building in Little Village.
Proposals for a community center for nonprofit Erie Neighborhood House and a 42-unit affordable housing building from nonprofit The Resurrection Project were approved by the City Council on Thursday. Both projects were approved by the city’s zoning committee Tuesday.
Erie Neighborhood House, which is dedicated to supporting low-income and immigrant families, plans to build a five-story, 18,000-square-foot community center at 2653 S. Kildare Ave. The project’s goal is to meet the growing number of people it serves, according to the group’s website. The site is currently an empty lot.
The $16.4 million community center will provide mental health services, literacy initiatives, youth development and legal aid, according to the city.
