Jaime Torres Carmona gives invited lecture at Texas Tech College of Architecture and El Paso Art Museum
Having grown up between Chicago and Mexico City, Jaime Torres will discuss the ethos and motivation behind his design practice. Canopy is built on a highly collaborative approach that centers on empathy and the belief that good design is for everyone. Jaime and his team approach their work beginning with people and place, emphasizing neighborhood-focused architecture and its social impact. The projects he will present consider how abstract notions of belonging, safety, community care, and cultural expression materialize through design.
Baker and Ryerson Fellow Jaime Torres Carmona is Founder and Principal of Canopy / architecture + design, LLC, an award-winning architecture and urban design practice based in Chicago. Recognized for his approach and sensitivity towards the end user, social impact and the environment, Jaime explores the role of design as a vehicle for positive change. Through projects ranging in scale from community and health centers to housing, schools, mixed-use buildings, and urban design, Jaime is drawn towards the urban and civic realm and its impact on the human experience.
While in El Paso, Jaime had the opportunity to visit significant architectural and urban sites in addition to the Texas Tech University campus.
