Burke Greenwood, RA

Burke Greenwood is a registered architect in Illinois. Joining Canopy in 2012, Burke focuses on the integration of architecture, energy efficiency, and social responsibility attempting to deliver good design with improved building performance and a positive social impact. Burke graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Design from Miami University in 1995 followed with a dual Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1998. After completion of his studies, Burke worked for a number of notable Chicago architecture firms through 2004.  Between 2004 and late 2007, Burke lived in both Melbourne Australia and Beijing, China working on projects throughout mainland China.  This diverse experience with large scale residential, community-based, and mixed-use projects throughout the region and internationally brings an international perspective and understanding of culture and context to our creative process.

Burke provides design and technical leadership for architectural and planning projects.   Prior to joining Canopy, Burke spent time studying the fundamentals of Building Science while working with a non-profit Weatherization service provider helping to improve the energy efficiency of over 200 residential homes for low-income families in Illinois. With this combination of his architectural experience, and embracing the evolution of the energy efficiency industry, Burke provides expertise in merging building performance with the human experience responding to the health, comfort, and aesthetics.

Outside of the office, Burke spends time with his young family enjoying the cultural offerings found in Chicago as well as discovering his wife’s native culture and country of Spain.  Culture, gastronomy, and experience all contribute to his continuous interest in travel balanced with his love of nature and spending relaxing weekends in the woods camping with his family.
