YSP – Youth Center Renovation

Youth Service Project (YSP), a community-based youth center serving Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood obtained a Capital Improvement Grant through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to improve their existing 2,400sf ground level space. Bringing on Canopy to establish a new program and design, the project called for the reinvention of traditional community/youth counseling space to establish a flexible, multi-use space for counseling, seminars, art display, and community events with supporting administrative and secondary functions. The more interactive, multi-use zone would be situated along the street side to provide a direct connection to the public.  In addition, themes of energy efficiency and low-impact design are expressed through the use of natural light, reclaimed on-site materials, and low-demand, high-output artificial lighting.
